I feel it’s a disgrace that a few households are able to sensationalize (worldwide in the media) a problem that they claim to be having with their water wells while refusing to accept any means of treatment or remedy free of charge (other than a huge financial settlement in the courts). Through the use of bizarre videos and hostile comments, 11 households and their lawyers are bringing notoriety to the Dimock community. We are embarrassed by their behavior, in the media, and are opposed to the resulting propaganda. As a result, we have created this website in order to add a bit of reality to this ongoing saga.
It is incredibly frustrating!
My family resides in Dimock, Pa, a quiet town in Susquehanna County. When we moved in the area we had seen a lack of work available and had to go hours away or into another state for work. Than it all changed, the Gas Industry came in within a year of our arrival and Saved the area. The State Officials had not contributed to any economical development, and families were loosing their homes and jobs daily. The experience lately is allot of negative perspectives on this Industry, one being the Fracking Process and the possible contamination to our water sources. The Industry is safely monitoring all of their work forces and has been working with the area and the residents to take every step necessary to ensure and protect our resources. They are making every effort to correct any problem that may occur and fix it right away as well as any other business’s with excellent control would operate. The fracking has been proven not to be harmful, the people need to be more open to their wide vast of educational offerings from the Industry and experts within this field as well as listening to the neighbors who have experienced the wonderful responses from the Gas Industry and not just welcome the negative. We are so prone to listen to the negative and not open our minds up to a world of positive change that is needed and is finally here. There has to be facts with decisions and the facts are this Industry is a positive change for : Volitale Energy within the United States , Local jobs and Business’s Developing, New Educational Developments , Financial Resources in means of lease payments or royalties to Landowner’s and State owned land, Established Business’s growth, Closing the door on them is closing the door on your Future.
These Companies are not here to destroy our land or make our lives unbairable, in fact the state’s issues and Political Policies seem to make it turn around and make them the “Bad Guys”. These business’s do make allot of money, but they also pay allot of bills and taxes and also contribute to the community in more ways than the Government has in years. The jobs they have created do consist of “Local Resident’s”, the falicy of these companies only employing their own “Out of State Rough Necks” is not true at all. You do need experienced people to do the job , if we want to relocate to Oklahoma to work, than by all means do so, but we choose to live here and they came to us, they are educating us and creating workshops to do this and establish training for those not experienced so they can have a future. My husband is one of them and we have been very thankful that they came to our area and created such a vast needed resource in all areas, we thank them and welcome them! Please anyone fighting to keep them out of the area, think again and find out more facts, the knowledge you allow will change your perspective, these companies are not our enemies, you need to look closer at the whole picture.
Gloria
Dimock Resident
Well said Gloria!!! I have been a life long resident of Dimock/Springville area.. My parents and grandparents on both side were from Dimock/Springville area. I have know all my life that there has been gas in the water. Not only that but if you look at some of the standing water in the spring time you will see a film of oil on the surface. I believe a lot of the methane in the water could have come from years of farming with the use of various fertilizers, weed killers and animal manure. There have been and still are a lot of junk yards in the area with abandoned batteries, fuel tanks and so much more.
Being a Realtor in the area I have seen first hand the toll the economy has put on the area in the past few years.I am thankful that some of the families close to foreclosure have been able to keep their homes and put food on the table due in part because of the gas companies. I am glad the loggers, the stone quarry operators, restaurants and the few hotels we have in the area are all most all profiting from the gas industry. I attend a lot of charity events. I am always seeing donations from Cabot whether it is for a sick child, the schools, the library or the animal shelter. They did a great job helping out after the floods with equipment and man power.
Dorreen Manley
Dimock Resident
you are so right Dorreen,Cabot has built better roads in this county than we have ever had..They just donated 1,0000 dollars for a new hospital and will match a 2nd million
they have done so much for us.and I don’t see what else they could do for those few people, they have offered them everything,to make them whole again and was refused .
many people near and far are starting to see what is really going on here and their feeling are fast changing
What is the story regarding the Nursing home that was shut down by the state because of bad water? This was years ago and was on Carter Road.
We’re trying to get proof on that. So far I’ve been told that the nursing home called “Whispering Pines” was actually on the corner of Carter Road and the Dimock to Brooklyn Road. It was eventually torn down and the trailer that Norma J. Fiorentino lives in now was put there.
In February, I sent a letter to Michael Krancer, Secretary of the PA Department of Environmental Protection, and said “. . . it is mentioned that there used to be a nursing home called “Whispering Pines”, right on Carter Road, which was shut down by the state 30+ years ago because of the unacceptable water quality. Hopefully your department can research old records to give validity to this discovery as it might play an integral part in this whole impasse.” To date I have gotten NO REPLY from the DEP.
If anyone has more information about “Whispering Pines,” please comment here and let us know.
Are there any old pictures around of the area when Whispering Pines was still operating. If someone has any in an album, it could be posted on the web site. I don’t expect much help from DEP.
J&D
I do remember that nursing home being there and that it was shut down. It eventually burned about 30 years ago. I will look and see what I can find.
Question for the locals. I was wondering if there are any trout streams in the area. If so what is the overall impact on the fishing? Thinking about this question now. Probably the dumbest question ever asked. Lets see the Pa Division of Wildlife that sells fishing license will say the trout will swim into your waders. Local trout fishermen will say what trout Shhhh.
I am an avid hunter and fisherman. I have been hunting since the age of 12. The trout streams and ponds have not been affected. The game commission does not stock as many as they use to.
I have property in Gilbertsville, NY and the the anti drilling fear mongers are trying to shut us down in our local towns and villages. They know that after three years of Scientific research that NY State DEC is going to let us drill. Most of the anti’s are from NY City and are paid through the Park Foundation. The Green Party and MoveO.org are at every meeting and are very organized. George Soros funds these organizations and left wing media because he owns a lease on a large natural gas deposit in New Guineau. Obama gave two billion of our tax dollars to Brazil for offshore drilling so that Soros can sell the oil to China. Obama also shut down the keystone pipeline. Guess who was Obama’s main campaign financier. Wake up America before it is too late.
I for one hate all the negative publicity! As with every avenue of progress there will be some things that need to be worked out. I believe we need to be more self reliant here in America. We need to bring back our industries and the production of natural gas and oil is just a start of what we need to do. The positive things that I have seen here in just the short time the gas companies have been here are,all the restaurants, hotels, are full. The stone quarry companies and timber companies are back in business after a few dry years. People have more money to purchase things they could not before. It is very nice to see new homes going up and some of the farmers are back in business!!!
Hello Dimock! After attending the hearing last night at Elk Lake School, News 12 Station coverage showed a prime example of negative coverage. There were numerous people at this meeting and they only aired one person and it was someone who is against the industry. Why do we have to continually ask for our opinions to be heard and aired? Is this the way they were trained for their jobs? Entertainment is their main agenda, what ever happened to intelligent reporting? I heard several yackers behind me with curse words and disgusting comments being made while others were trying to speak. There were numerous speakers with valid points on both sides of the issue, however the media does not air balanced reporting.
I am truly saddened to see how this area is being protrayed. I hope that more of us that are in agreement with the negative publicity join and grow stronger together to try and stop this nonsense.
Somebody essentially assist to make seriously articles I
might state. This is the first time I frequented your web page and thus far?
