How Can This Be Happening?

Comment from J&D:

I would like to know how a handful of people can continuously get away with misleading individuals, Government Agencies, politicians, actors, the media, etc. into believing lies and false information. Our wonderful media does not portray the truth about what has been going on with the litigants from Carter Road. We the people of Dimock township are fed up with the media referring to any incident reported as problems in Dimock. The only problem Dimock township has is the small handful of people on Carter Road. They have single handedly torn our township down. People nationwide think Dimock Township is a disaster zone. They have devalued our property and ruined the reputation of a very beautiful area in Pennsylvania.  This whole farce has caused stress, anguish and heartache for the entire community because of a few individuals’ greed. They have used any vehicle they could for their own personal agenda, which is a get rich scheme of becoming instant millionaires. They are using the lie of tainted water to reach their goal as they carry around a milk jug of dirty water from who knows where. If they really wanted better water, they would have cooperated with DEP and Cabot Oil in drilling new water wells and installing filtering systems (at no cost to them – free of charge) like their  neighbors did. They are not fooling us, we all know the truth!    Unfortunately, it seems to me when issues like this arise, no matter what the results, industry HAS to be the blame! Now that EPA has come into the area to do more extensive water testing at our expense what type of results are they looking for to determine that Cabot and fracking ISN’T the cause of the litigants claim?  What is it really going to take? A thought to ponder…….Enough is Enough!  Media Request?:

It’s because their strings are being pulled by a number of outside interests, especially New Yorkers with a green agenda and environmental foundations with deep pockets. Where are most of their “appearances” located? New York state. Who attends the events coordinated for their alleged water woes? It’s mostly New Yorkers and other out-of-towners. IMO, it is not all about the lawsuit; it’s equally about the attention they receive from not only special interest groups, but media as well.

Oh, yes, the media is as complicit in this as well. How many times have Dimock residents asked certain reporters for an equal share of the headlines? Even the editor of the two nearest newspapers defers the “continuing saga” to a Scranton reporter who is openly biased against the industry.

Good luck and best wishes on your battle to reclaim the rightful image of Dimock, of one that is still a beautiful area and not laid to waste by the oil and gas industry and where most of the people work with the industry to further the interests of all including the local landowners and businesses.

Thanks for your input Sherry, its frustrating to all. If they like New York so much and seem to fit in there. Then why don’t they move to New York and leave our wonderful Dimock Township alone!

The squeaky wheel gets heard…. We need to organize & speak our minds louder than those big mouth “antis”… We need to be heard!!!! It’s so discouraging that a handful if money hungry, un-educated (regarding natural gas) lying whiners can trash this great little town! I’m proud to live in Dimock!

As for the litigants, if you are not happy here, then by all means…. Get the hell out! Go to NY or Maine already!

Whether or not you are for or against natural gas drilling…. It’s going to happen… End of story. Either deal with it or leave… I’m sure there are plenty of people in this town who will help you pack and send you on your way!

Here in Europe, Dimock is mentioned by people as if the entire town is poisoned: a shale Chernobyl. Can you tell us some more about Dimock, i.e. how many people live there and if anyone else apart from those on Carter Road have raised issues? What about nearby towns?
Is all drilling now banned in Dimock? How many well pads are there and how many can be seen at once? We’re worried in Europe that it will look like Texas, although Europe mostly looks like Dimock with less trees!

    Thanks in advance

      Nick,

There are approximately 750 landowners in Dimock Twp with around 2500 people living here. There are several lakes in the township which have many persons here during the summer months. These properties have been in the families for a long time & these persons come from as far away as California. Dimock also is the location of the local school as well as a career and trade school. In fact, the Elk Lake School District has several wells on its property. The income from these wells has helped pay the bills in the school so that real estate taxes haven’t been raised in the last couple of years.

The closest major town is Montrose which is about 8 miles from Dimock. Montrose is the county seat with the county government located there. The Susq. Co. courthouse is located there. It has 2 groceries stories, a feed mill, several restaurants & bars, 8-10 churches, and many Mom and Pop store. 4th of July is a MAJOR event in Montrose with a 2 hr. parade and many, many vendors selling their wares. The Blueberry Festival held in August is sponsored by the local library as its main fund raiser for the year. People come from all over to the annual event. They love the small town feeling.

I have grown up in Dimock and basically have lived here my entire life. But I have done a bit of traveling so I have seen other places. No matter where I go, it’s always great to be home. Dimock has always been a small town with friendly people who will help you with anything they can. It is very sad that a small group of people have portrayed Dimock as a “wasteland”

Thanks all for your comments, very useful. I will mention the rest of the Dimock each time I hear people going on about Gasland. Obviously Cabot did something wrong, but we can also learn from mistakes, not repeat them.

I see you actually visited the area and will soon be starting a series, From England to Gasland, on what you saw (as well as what you didn’t see. (http://www.nohotair.co.uk/).

Just in case some are concerned I have been poisoned, asphyisated or swallowed up by the earth over the past week in the US, full reports later this week.

Great things fromTexas to share, but first, the most important news . I spent Friday hearing about the reality of shale from some people in the Dimock PA area.

Dimock, if you listen to Gasland narrative should be a wasteland, acres of derricks, thousands of trucks clogging up the roads and fiery water.

The reality? It simply not very exciting at all. I was shocked to see how low the landscape footprint is for example. If you were just passing through, one could almost miss it completely. Have to admit I saw four trucks in a row every ten minutes or so. Shocking. Spoke to lovely people, including some who appeared in Gasland who were shocked by the perceptions of their reality.

Sometimes you just have to see for yourself. Read more from Tuesday onwards.

    Hello Nick
I would like you to know our township, Dimock is Beautiful. It’s SAD a handful of people that live on Carter Road has caused so many to believe a lie. They let greed distort the truth. The media as everyone knows is selective in what they broadcast. Negative news sells, right! I will tell you we live in a township (Dimock) where there are hills, wetlands, pastures, lakes, farms, open land and forests. Many different types of wildlife, you can look out your window and be surprised each time. We have rabbits of course, ground hogs, fox, wild turkeys, white tailed deer, bobcats, and black bears to name a few. A large variety of beautiful birds, we are a rural community. I am happy that the real truth is starting to be told, and most of all people want to know the truth. There is hope for humanity.
A Well pad is built, a drilling rig is brought in and set up. There are rigs scattered throughout our area. But this is a temporary event, quite amazing. After the wells are drilled, the land is reclaimed. The landowner has many options, like trees planted, grass, a food plot for wildlife, or made back into a pasture. the gas companies have been keeping their word. Also the gas companies have been rebuilding many of our roads, they have never been better.
I’m sure other people will be following this discussion, I don’t have answers to all of your questions. But hang in there you will get them. Drilling is continuing throughout the area. Because of the select few on Carter Road, one of our government agencies DEP has put a moratorium on a nine square mile tract of land surrounding Carter Road. There has been more water testing of various water wells in our area by government agencies. Some of the results are available to the public, more results are expected in the near future.
I can tell you our water from our well is fine, and if you ask other people from our township you will hear the same amswer. Stay tuned I’m sure other people from our area will be responding.
Thanks for writing and wanting to know the truth!

Regarding the Nursing Home in Dimock. would the Montrose Newspaper have information in their archives? Courthouse?

THE MORE THAT YOU TELL A LIE……. THE MORE PEOPLE WILL BELIEVE IT.
The eco-terrorists like the Green Party and MoveOn.org are funded by George Soros through the Park Foundation. These fear mongers are spewing false propaganda in upstate NY and have been successful in shutting down gas drilling locally even though NY DEC has done a very thorough scientific research study and found that fracking does not contaminate drinking water. George Soros owns a large natural gas deposit in New Guineau. You might wonder why doesn’t this get mentioned in the media. When you have billions of dollars being funneled to the media to support left wing propaganda you can control anything. George Soros was also Obama’s main campaign financier in 2008.

    • J&D says:

Thank you for for this interesting information. I did not hear the name George Soros before. Reading into your information, it seems this person wants the world to buy his gas. It would make sense to fund anti gas and drilling groups if you own a large natural gas deposit. When it comes to greed, I guess sound morals and caring for your fellow man goes right out the window.

  7. Lucky Charm says:

Does anyone know if any wells are shutdown in the Dimock as a result of the Williams fire/explosion in Springville?

Another question…….. Cabot has been saying some wells /pipes are frozen. How the heck can this happen in the spring? The well owners were told by the Cabot field crews that they would have to come back and unfreeze them at a later date. I guess this must mean the wells are down. If the well pipes freezing are anything like our house pipes freezing, water would be going everywhere. Is gas escaping at the site? Sounds a bit far fetched to me. .
